In-depth Aspire AVP Pod Vape Review
Aspire has released a new all in one (AIO) pod kit named the AVP, which benefits from a number of new features including a variable wattage mode. So how does this pod compare with the best pod vapes on the market? Only one way to find out, let’s review it!
The look of the Aspire AVP pod is certainly impressive, looking like a small model spaceship, and Aspire, in true form, are releasing a number of different color options which include; black, grey, rainbow, purple, and orange, all having a black graphite side.
Measuring in at just 82mm tall, a maximum width of 39mm and a thickness of just 14mm this pod is small in comparison to even the best e-cigarettes, but for a pod, it is comparable with their Breeze 2 that we reviewed some time ago.
Nice to see a removable pod system that is refillable, you save so much money buying these refillable pods as opposed to the disposable types we see on the market. The refill port has a safety catch on it, so you need to press down with your e-liquid bottle in order to open the valve and fill.
The device itself is made of zinc alloy giving a nice quality feel to the whole device; with carbon fiber panels either side. The charge port can be found on the bottom of the device, meaning you will have to lay it down to re-charge. On the side is a round circle air hole which seems quite large, so be careful not to cover this when vaping!
There is a small button on one of the carbon fiber panels, clicking this 5 times turns the AVP on and off. Clicking the button once, when switched on shows the light glow red. This means it is in low wattage mode of 8-Watts. Two clicks of the fire button make the button glow green, this represents the change in mode to high wattage of 12-Watts. Clicking a further 2 clicks glows blue which is the medium mode of 10-Watts.
One cool feature that Aspire has integrated here is that the wattage will remain constant throughout the life of the battery. Unlike similar devices, where you slowly lose wattage throughout the battery lifecycle.
The Aspire AVP also has a battery indicator that is shown when you vape on the device.
- If it glows green the battery is at 3.8 volts or above
- Blue represents between 3.5 and 3.8 volts
- Red means you have less than 3.5 volts remaining
It has a 750mAh built-in battery, which as we already covered, is rechargeable using the port on the base of the device and the supplied lead.
Our first test is with the device set to the highest wattage of 12Watts. We’re using a 6mg, 70/30 VG/PG e-liquid, we find pod devices can handle slightly higher nicotine levels! One of the first things we notice is the draw. As this device is meant to be a mouth to lung (MTL), it seems a little loose. The heat is not too bad at all, producing a nice warm vape.
Reducing the wattage down from 12-Watts to 10-Watts creates the same flavor, but a slightly cooler vape. Reducing again down to 8-Watts we noticed a slight drop in flavor and a completely cool vape.
If you have a strongly flavored e-liquid then vaping at the lower wattages is understandable, but personally, we preferred it at the 12-Watts maximum.
The Aspire AVP AIO pod system is one of the first pods on the market that allows variable wattage from 8-12 Watts. The flavor coming from the 12 Watt setting is really good producing a nice subtle warm vape.
The overall look of the AVP is really nice, with the carbon fiber looking sides and the metallic zinc alloy edges. The pod has a press to fill function that takes a bit to get used to as it’s sunken into the housing, but it has its advantages and stops e-liquid leaks.
It’s also nice to have a rather large 750mAh built-in battery which lasts a day vaping and an on-off button on the front, remember the button only acts to change the wattages, it has an automatic flow detector to fire when vaping!
Overall we were impressed with the Aspire AVP, not only does it look nice, it produces a nice warm flavourful vape, one of the best on the market in its class.
