Basic Operations of the SMOK Morph – Important
Many Vapers don’t bother to read the manual for their new vape mods or sub-ohm tanks. Since nothing really changed, it took only a minute or two in order to figure out how the thing operates… not so with the Morph.
1 – Insert your 2x 18650 cells, fully charged and free of damage
2 – Click the Fire Panel 5 times quickly.
3 – To lock the Fire Panel, click it 3 times quickly. (this only locks its ability to fire)
Above the Fire Panel is a thin black on/off/stealth button. This is vital to operating the Morph. Press and Hold that thin black button until you see the LOCK Icon on the Touchscreen turn into an unlocked lock icon.
When the touchscreen lock icon shows “unlocked”, touch, don’t press, the “Microsoft” lookalike icon on the upper left of the screen. This move changes the touchscreen to a series of functions, beginning with MODE.
For my test unit, the default Mode was temperature control (200c) and SS coils.
Press the Mode icon and choose WAT for Wattage, and along the bottom you can set the wattage level and the strength of the initial hit from the sub-ohm tank.
On every “screen” is a nice “return” icon that will back you up to the prior screen. This makes it easy to return to the main menu to set the time, your custom settings, and more.
About the SMOK Morph
The SMOK Morph measures 84.5mm by 44.8mm by 30.2 mm and weighing 158 grams without batteries. It Fires up to a true 200 watts on dual fully charged 18650’s (not included).
The SMOK Morph has sweeping lines around the entire chassis, and you will find a Hi-Res 1.9-inch touchscreen on the front of the mod, with a nicely done Resin inlay on the back. Yes, it feels a bit like the size of the SMOK Alien, but not quite as heavy.
In truth, although the Morph is the most different vape mod (and tank) I’ve seen from SMOK in a long while, it combines a few features seen in other SMOK Mods. This includes the Resin inlays on the back, and a color touchscreen that locks the screen as soon as the Fire Panel is pressed so the user never needs to worry about accidentally changing the settings. (Nice child lock ideas)
Additional features worth mentioning at this point include one of the fastest ramp-up times I’ve ever seen (0.001 seconds), 1.8A charging current, long battery life, and the completely new IQ-Intelligent Chipset. Oh, and let’s not forget the feature of a “passcode” security.
Vaping the SMOK Morph 219W TC Starter Kit
I am so saddened, and sickened, by the daily introduction of new pod systems that I haven’t used a new mod in several months. I personally believe the Chinese Vape Industry is making a huge mistake devoting so much time and money into pod systems, and even when they introduce a new mid-wattage or high-wattage mod, it’s as though the entire design teams of every manufacturer has given up.
Today’s pod systems and more powerful mods all seem to be designed to appeal to kids, graffiti vape pens, especially devices like Freemax’s Twister vape pen, wild colors, LED’s everywhere, and the overuse of translucent plastic. And don’t even get me started on “disposable” sub-ohm’s that taste like crap and produce minimum vapor. These last 5 months I haven’t like a single device enough to want to review it, much less own it.
Although SMOK is using a Resin inlay on the Morph, you can’t say it’s designed to appeal to teenagers. And it’s the first vape mod and tank I wanted to review.
Performance – Mod
After learning how to use the Morph mod I found it a delight to vape with it. The Touchscreen is responsive, but not overly so, the size and weight as good for any size hand, and its TC abilities, including TCR control, are smooth. It’s regulated, protected, intelligent, (it recognizes the atomizer coil automatically), and well made. In fact, after checking out the Specs I’ve included in this review, I’m fairly certain you won’t find anything on your own “wishlist” missing.
Performance – TF Sub-Ohm Tank
I have no idea what TF means, just as I didn’t know what V8, or V12 stood for. I can tell you that we are dealing with a brand-new family of coils, including Mesh and Ceramic. What I do know is this latest SMOK Sub-Ohm has a lot going for it. The clouds are massive, the flavor fidelity is spot on. I’d say the flavor of this tank is as good as my go-to sub-ohm, the Augvape Skynet (not the Skynet Pro, its coils only last a few days).
I’ve invested quite a bit in a dozen Skynet Sub-Ohm’s and a few dozen packs of their mech coils. For my tastes, there has been anything better than the Skynet, and the coil life is weeks, not days. While I will definitely enjoy the SMOK TF Sub-Ohm, but it will be a while before I invest in replacement coils for it.
Lastly, for e-liquid
The SMOK TF Sub-Ohm Tank
The SMOK TF Sub-Ohm Tank (6mL capacity) is the latest revision of the TF series of tanks. The TF Tank features a raised base which helps bring sufficient airflow into the tank.
The TF Tank offers the newly designed TF BF and BC mesh coils as well. The SMOK TF Tank is cloud maker but equally an excellent flavor maker. SMOK’s top filling system has changed a bit as well, whereas the silicon cap used to lay atop the tank’s fill slots, this time around a new solid silicon seal sits up and into the slide away portion of the tank. No doubt this will help give the TF Tank a longer silicon cap lifespan.
The SMOK Morph Starter Kit Bottom Line
If you’re looking to toss your pod system in the trash (where they all go after 3 or 4 weeks anyway), then by all means the Morph Starter Kit is a wonderful choice. Or, if you’ve missed something worthwhile from SMOK, then the Morph Kit is a good reason to dive back in.
I award the SMOK Morph Starter Kit a worthwhile score of “A”, but as much as I like it, enjoy it, and use it (both mod and tank), it’s not a “must have” kit by any means.
SMOK is offering something truly fresh, with new features and old, in a well-constructed zinc alloy body, and I would love to see SMOK and other manufacturers begin to offer better and better vape mods like the Morph. It’s time to get over this obsession with pod systems. Yea, we know they cost pennies to build, but to me, they suck. When it comes to
